NEW KITCHEN FOR PARISH HALL

Two years ago the Parish Hall Trustees took the decision to raise funds for a new kitchen refit and after many fund raising events, careful attention to its financial affairs and the assistance of local funded grants the kitchen refit went ahead in August and was completed on time by the end of the month. To mark this special occasion our new kitchen was formally opened by our local County Councillor Julian Brazil on Monday 21st September.  The total project cost was just under £19,000 and the Trustees wish to thank those local organisations and individuals involved in helping us to raise enough money to commence work. Our special thanks to Devon County Council for a £7,500 Grant (from the Sale of Exeter Airport) and for a £1,000 grant from the Devon Community Foundation (Grassroots). Without this level of support our project would not have been possible and we can now boast an up to date quality kitchen that will be put to good use by our local community.

STOKENHAM PARISH OBTAIN RE-ACCREDITATION AS QUALITY COUNCIL

Stokenham Parish Council  was one of the first Parish Councils in England to be awarded Quality Council Status in 2004, a quality mark ensuring a standard of performance. Needing to now satisfy ten tests of competence Stokenham Parish Council have re-applied meeting the new criteria and been awarded re-accreditation for a further four years. One section of the tests is to have a council website preferably including a blog providing a forum for parishioner participation which Stokenham Parish Council hope people will visit and use.

This quality mark gives other partners such as County and District council the assurance that Stokenham Parish Council is a professional body meeting  such requirements and is no doubt one reason why Stokenham have been chosen to host a pilot project to bring the day to day management of services closer to the people.
