The Parish Council initiative in conjunction with local producers to promote and support local foods continues at a pace. The entry in the in the "Best Local Foods Award for 2005" has been submitted in the form of a portfolio describing all the parish initiatives to support local foods and the results of the competition are awaited with interest. A Food Festival was held in conjunction with the official opening of the new Stokeley Farm Shop and a short film of the event was included in the portfolio. So successful was this event that  a special Christmas Festival Of Local Foods has been held with equal if not greater success. A collection of photographs from both events are shown below. With a grant received from the AONB Sustainability Fund a promotional leaflet and questionnaire was delivered to all 1,000 residences in the parish. To encourage participation, return of the questionnaire qualified for entry into a free draw of 5 prizes being  meals for two at pubs and restaurants in the parish.  Educating future generations in the importance of local foods has been helped by the use of local food in the preparation of all school meals and an expedition to the farm and farm shop to see the growing and harvesting of local foods and the planting of their own school apple tree was much enjoyed by the some of the youngsters. The first prize for the School Christmas Draw was a hamper full of local foods (see photo above) also drawn by Father Christmas at the Christmas Festival.

We all know that quality can be reduced by the distance some food must travel and here we are inviting everyone to just stop and consider their shopping habits! Local quality speaks for itself and sourcing it locally can reduce travel costs and make quality within budget. We know you value your local producers and invite you to join us in promoting all that this parish can off
